National Fire Safety Inquiry
House fire deaths and injuries are preventable and yet every year across the country hundreds of Australian families are devastated by house fire related incidents. Sadly, lives are destroyed forever. We must STOP the preventable injuries and deaths. Our country can do this by amending legislation, reviewing access to and installation of, fire safety and prevention products and improving community education and awareness. Importantly, we also need to cease the importation and use of cheap and highly flammable building products from overseas.
I am determined to stop house fire injuries and deaths across Australia.
In 2015, I secured the support of the Australian Senate to establish a national ‘Fire Safety Inquiry’ to look into house fire incidents across the country and determine what changes need to be made to stop the carnage.
Organisations across the country including Government agencies, fire safety and rescue agencies, community groups and others were invited to participate. Members of the community were also encouraged to take part.
